I totally agree with Jean Twenge - no kid under 13 should be on social media. It’s just too much for them to handle, and they’re not mature enough to deal with it. Plus, there’s a lot of potential for cyberbullying and other negative stuff that kids that age aren’t equipped to handle. So yeah, I’d say wait until they’re at least 13 before letting them join any social media platform.
